Website SEO Optimisation: A Step-by-Step Guide

Let’s figure out in what order to check the technical base, demand, structure and content so that SEO work produces measurable results.

Step-by-step SEO website optimization

SEO optimization is not a one-time edit of meta tags or a mechanical addition of keywords. The site must be accessible to the search robot, answer the user’s real request and help him take the next step: choose a service, request a calculation, or leave a request.

Below is a sequence that can be used for a new project or for a site that has not been growing in search for a long time.

If you are still choosing where to start and what tasks to entrust to a contractor, read the guide first “How to promote a website in Google”. It contains priorities for the business owner and a plan for the first month; here is the sequence of SEO checks and improvements.

1. Record goals and baselines

Before starting work, determine which business areas are priorities. For each direction, you need clear indicators: current visibility, organic traffic, number of hits and landing page conversion.

Line items are useful for diagnosis, but are not a business result in themselves. A request may be in the TOP and not generate sales if it has informational intent or the page does not convince the visitor to contact.

Minimum control set:

  • organic traffic on priority pages;
  • visibility by target groups of requests;
  • applications, calls and other conversions;
  • entry pages and queries that bring in the audience;
  • Crawl and indexing errors.

2. Conduct a technical SEO audit

First, make sure that the search engine can consistently find and process the pages you need. Check server responses, robots.txt, sitemap.xml, canonical, duplicate URLs, redirects and error pages.

Special attention should be paid to the mobile version and speed. The user will not understand the proposal if the interface jumps when loading, the text is cut off, and the form does not work on the phone.

Technical tasks are better ranked by impact. An error that blocks a section from indexing is more important than a cosmetic warning that does not interfere with users and robots.

3. Collect semantics based on user intent

Key queries need to be grouped not only by words, but also by the person’s task. The queries “what is SEO”, “order SEO promotion” and “cost of SEO optimization” require different answers and often different pages.

For a commercial site you usually need:

  • pages of main services;
  • pages of individual solutions or product types;
  • industry and regional landing pages, if they are really useful;
  • articles answering questions before purchasing;
  • cases, comparisons and instructions that confirm the examination.

You shouldn't create dozens of almost identical pages just to change one keyword. Each page should have its own purpose and content value.

4. Create a clear structure

Good architecture helps the visitor to quickly understand the sentence, and the search robot to see the relationships between sections. Important pages should not be located four or five transitions from the main page.

Use clear URLs, logical breadcrumbs and internal links from thematically related materials. For example, an article about technical auditing might lead to a page SEO optimization, and the material about creating a landing page is for the service website development.

5. Strengthen the content of commercial pages

The H1 heading should accurately name the service and not conflict with the title of the page. The first screen answers three questions: what do you offer, who is it suitable for, and what result does the client get.

Then expand:

  • client problems and tasks;
  • composition and stages of work;
  • differences in approach;
  • expected results and limitations;
  • cost or calculation principle;
  • answers to frequently asked questions;
  • clear way to contact.

Write in natural language. Repeating one phrase in every paragraph does not make the page more relevant, but it does impair readability and credibility.

6. Set up title and description

The title must be unique and clearly describe the specific page. The main topic is usually placed at the beginning, followed by the clarification or value. Description is a short human description of the content that helps the user decide whether to move on from the search.

Do not copy the same meta tags for all services. The development, SEO and contextual advertising page responds to different demands and should have its own snippet.

7. Measure results and improve pages

After implementation, search engines need time to re-crawl and re-evaluate the site. Monitor not only overall traffic, but also which pages are growing, which queries are generating impressions, and whether new traffic is turning into hits.

If impressions are growing, but there are few clicks, check the title and compliance with the request. If there are transitions, but no requests, analyze the proposal, evidence, form and mobile scenario.

SEO becomes a sustainable channel when technical tasks, content and conversion work as one system. If you need a priority implementation plan, you can discuss website SEO optimization with the SEOLIFT team.
